Road Trip Day Three - part one

We started day three with a beautiful sunrise.

Then we headed to the Royal Gorge to have breakfast on the train.

Arkansas river on one side.

Rocks on the other.

That bridge up there is our next stop!

Road trip - day two

After spending the night in Amarillo we traveled on into New Mexico to see the volcano.

Walked down into the center

On the way back up to the parking level - hello altitude!

Hubby went on to walk around the top - the altitude was too much for me and daddy's shoulder was hurting (surgery next week!) so these photos are courtesy of the hubs.

Not sure which direction he was facing at the time but supposedly you can see all the way to Oklahoma from up here.

Meanwhile, daddy and I rested up.
This was his birthday and I was so happy to be spending quality time with him!

There are several hiking and biking trails and we took off down one - which at some times was barely even a pig trail but we finally came out onto what looked like a road - hoping we were heading in the right direction. Signs were few and far between!

We finally made it out and got back on the road to Colorado Springs

Just in the nick of time. They close the park when there is lightening/rain.
(remember that bench up there - good idea)

The view from our home away from home for the next 3 days.

Stay tuned for some beautiful sunrises!

Road Trip!

We took a little road trip and I thought I would share some photos. I can't show all of them - we took over 600 so I will spilt them up a bit. We left on the 16th and drove to Palo Duro Canyon

We had never been - had no idea how big it is!

Second largest in the nation!

It was beautiful but hot and windy. That was the only stop we managed on day one. Spent the night in Amarillo and headed towards Colorado Springs the next day. I'll show pics from day 2 next!

It's the little things

Sometimes it really is the little things!

My silverware drawer has been driving me nuts since we moved in here nearly 5 years ago.
We had customized the drawer in the last house and had to leave it behind so I just had two of those plastic dividers in this drawer and it wasn't working for me. They didn't have enough slots and they slid back into the drawer every time I opened and closed the drawer. I finally sat down last week and drew off exactly how I wanted it and we put it together over the weekend. I just used paint I had here so it's a little whiter than the drawer but it serves it's purpose! Wish I could convert all my lower cabinets to pull outs like we did before - I'm sure we 'could' but it would be a lot more work than it was last time since the cabinets are built different.

Hope you are having a great week and are staying cool. It's hot here in Texas!

Happy Independence Day!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Independence Day!

We have been just hanging around the house working on a DIY project

Not finished yet but I'll show it soon.
For now I'll just show a few of my patriotic stitched pieces I have sitting around.

Some of these I stitched last year
but didn't get around to 'finishing' them until this year

The one little stitched piece in my tiered tray was a gift from a friend. I hope to have some of my own stitching to put in there next year.

Some gnomes on the mantle

And of course some weenie dogs!

I would like to get a few more small pillows done for my bowl. The two on the left were stitched last year and 'finished' this year. The others have been finished for a few years.
If you want to learn how to stuff a pillow nice and tight, look up Vonna, The Twisted Stitcher - she has a great tutorial!

Thanks for stopping by!
