Poor Sam

I usually put Uncle Sam outside around Memorial Day and leave him until Labor Day. (kinda covers my summer decorating!) He was pretty weathered when I put him out this year. I like the weathered look, but he was just about so faded you couldn't tell who he was from the street so I brought him inside.

and spiffed him up a bit!

Now he is back out in his place on the front porch to 'weather' again!

I finally finished Flip Flop Days - now I just need to sew the buttons on. I really would like to have some fabric with flip flops on it to either make a pillow or flat fold. (haven't decided yet) They didn't have any (ff fabric) at Hobby Lobby the other day. I'll look through my stacks and see if anything else would work, but you know how it is when you get an idea in your head to do something a certain way! (or is that just me?)

Now I have a bit if a gripe. Mind you, this is only my opinion. I'm on the 'do not call' list. I realize there are some people who don't have to follow the 'do not call' list and I can deal with that too. However - I don't make donations over the phone. Period. It really ticks me off when someone tries to make me feel guilty or just gets down right rude when I tell them I don't donate over the phone. (yes - this just happened) I simply said I prefer to make my donations in person and the snotty guy said 'well how are you going to do that?' Well, I'm sure I can walk into any (insert this particular 'charity') office and they would be glad to either take my donation or give me an address to send it to - or I could call them and ask for an address. Excuse me, but don't accuse me of being heartless simply because I choose not to donate or give information over the phone when I didn't initiate the call. There are too many scams out there and they are too damn smart these days. They can make a call look like it is coming from a legitimate number. Now that I have that off my chest maybe I won't stew for the rest of the day on how rude the guy was. (and if I had caught his name, I would find out who to call and let them know that even if I did donate over the phone, I wouldn't have given this guy one red cent - and why!) Okay - rant off.

Hope you are having a great day - I'm going to enjoy the rest of mine!

I totally agree with you, I think thats what I'm going to start saying when people want donations from me. I ticks me of royally when they make you feel guilty about it, I mean they have no idea what your financial situation is so what right do they have to make you feel guilty. I love your uncle sam by the way :)

Hi--just stumbled across your blog. I have been a cross-stitcher for quite a while, but don't know anyone who stitches I was thrilled to see this. Your stitchery is beautiful! I'm not sure what part of East Texas you are in--I live in Garland, not too far away!

Why waste your time talking with these phone solicitors? Simply say, "I'm not interested, thankyou" and hang up. Donna from MI

Poor Sam looks EXHAUSTED in the first pick, and like he's spent a week at a lovely spa in the second! Nice job!

I detest telemarketers too. I swear Comcast sold our new number the second they gave it to us because we were inundated with calls the first few weeks after we moved. I guess I didn't get the new number on the DNC list fast enough. I make it a rule not to give anything to anyone (not money, not info) when I don't initiate the call.

If it's available where you live, try getting No Solicitation service from your telephone company. Here it costs something like $5.95 a month but it's well worth it. The only solicitation calls we get now are the prerecorded ones - annoying but easy to hang up on - and the volume has been reduced from several a week (when we lived in Kansas and couldn't get the service) to one or two a month. Like you I refuse to donate from a phone call.

I enjoy your blog.

Hi Tina...loved Momma Mia! I plan to get the CD too.

We're on the DNC list ...but still get calls too. Last one was for my hubby, he wasn't home and I the told the caller please take us of his list. He told me can't do...your huband has to make the request and then just hung up...nice guy.

Hope you have a nice day....and hey, Uncle Sam looks great. Hugs, Linda

Hi Tina :)

I'm sorry I've missed so much! Happy belated Birthday and blogiversary!

Uncle Sam looks fantastic!

I get those calls to and I've had them argue with me about not making a donation. Now I just hang up as soon as I hear more than 5 seconds of silence.

Have a great day!!

I get those calls also - I was beginning to think our name was no longer on the do not call list. For some reason it seems to me that you have to renew every few years. We seem to be getting more calls than usual. Uncle Sam looks great - you sure are handy with paint - a job well done!

I'm with ya! I signed up for that, and they call me too. Beats the hell out of me how they get by with it! Now I look over at the phone while I'm on the computer, and if I don't recognize that number showing up, I don't answer!

Uncle Sam really got a new dye job. Looks great. I love to display those patriotic things. He is a good one.

Oh, those solicitors just really drive me nuts. And we are on the DNC list too. Usually, I just say not interested and hang up. Last night was someone telling me I had won this big trip. Basically I just hung up on them.
