One wild ride

I definitely was not singing in the rain!

We had to go home (although at the moment, I'm not sure exactly where 'home' is) Tuesday evening as hubby had an early meeting in Tyler on Wednesday. He had to be back in Pasadena Thursday morning, so that meant we had to drive back Wednesday night. Yes, through all those storms you saw on the weather radar Wednesday night. It was a real nail-biter. We kept thinking we would eventually drive out of it, but we seemed to be moving at the same pace (slow!) and in the same direction so we were pretty much in blinding rain the whole way. After we got in and watched the news we heard there were 70mph wind gusts, and I believe it!

Anyway - it had started to rain by the time we got home Tuesday night so I didn't get to take any pictures of my plants until Wednesday morning - after they had been beaten down by the rain. :( I'm sure after the rain on Wednesday night they look even worse for the wear.

Still lots of iris buds waiting to bloom out.

I'm sure these were really pretty Tuesday afternoon

The dogwood tree is almost completely bloomed out

I even have quite a few leaves coming out on the hydrangea!

I know this was much prettier Tuesday afternoon - I hate that I missed it. (it is what I see out my kitchen window when doing dishes.)
I've finally managed to get my reader count to (just) below 200, but I'm afraid I will be way behind again by Monday. I'm going to a stitch retreat this weekend so I will be away from the computer for the next few days. I promise I will get caught up one of these days!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thirty and counting

Today the hubby and I have been married for thirty years. How is that possible? We were planning to take a trip to North Carolina (to tour Biltmore) but that hasn't worked out - yet. We still plan to go, it will just be later. Maybe when Biltmore is decorated for Christmas - maybe not until next spring - who knows. On the home front, our house has been shown (finally!) but no offers. :( While I'm at a stitching retreat this coming weekend (yeah!) hubby will drive in and do yard work. The boys are doing a pretty good job of keeping the house cleaned up and feeding the dog, but they aren't any help at all with yard work! I did have some things starting to bud out in the flowerbeds last time we were in - some things I wasn't sure if they would come back or not were budding out. We are driving in tomorrow as hubby has a meeting at the main office on Wednesday morning so I can't wait to see what is blooming now. Hopefully I will find my camera so I can share pics from the last time and take more tomorrow - it can't be that hard to find in this tiny apartment!

This picture is from the trip we took (5 years and 50lbs ago) for our 25th anniversary. It was taken in New Orleans the morning we left on a cruise.

Just saying hi!

So, yesterday I thought I would just take the day off from house hunting and do whatever. I managed to spend the morning making a quilt square before getting sucked back into the computer looking at houses again.
Here are the first two months blocks from the Thimbleberries quilt.

January

February (needs a little ironing I see)

We get one 12" square and three 6" squares to do each month. The March kit was short one fabric so I'm waiting on that before I can start that one.

I'm trying really hard to keep up with reading posts - even with little to know commenting I can't seem to get my reader below 300 posts! I get down close to 300 then the next time I sign on. . .

Love reading the posts, just sorry I can't comment much.

Back to my house hunting!

ps - the mirror is safe from paint at the moment. :)

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Should I change the name of my blog after all?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of stitching going on in these parts lately. I wish I had some cute name for my blog but that is what I came up with when I started and that is what it will remain, for now anyway. (I wanted something about my little yellow house - but since my little yellow house is for sale, I guess there was a reason I couldn't get the ones I tried at the time) I so wish I could just pick up my little yellow house and move it to Houston. We did have a little better luck on our second trip to view houses, although none of them 'measure up' to what I'm leaving behind. :( We are still looking. I've seen a few things that I could live with, but nothing I am in love with. I wasn't standing in line when they were handing out patience. I have about a 3 day window on projects - after that I'm ready to be done - and that includes house shopping! I miss regular blogging but with no stitching and no projects going on, there just doesn't seem to be a lot to blog about. (plus, my current internet connection leaves a lot to be desired - it is better than dial-up, but it still isn't great)

In the mean time, I thought I would show you one of the 'treasures' I found when we were working on MIL's house last month.

This mirror was out in one of the storage buildings - I couldn't resist. Don't you love the shape?

After a lot of elbow grease it is now hanging in my dining room. Wish I had a better 'after' picture but this is the best I can do for now. I'm still debating if I want to paint it or not, but I will leave that decision until after we move and I see where it will end up hanging.

Pictureless post

I hate making pictureless posts but at the moment it is the best I can do. I'm posting from the kidlet's computer (and his keyboard is sensitive!) and I have no pictures on here so it was either post w/o a picture or wait until I'm back at my own computer. Not that I have pictures of anything to show at the moment anyway. I spent most of this week in Houston with hubby (which is where my computer is) and spent hours upon hours on the internet looking at houses. Do you know that there are over 30,000 houses for sale in the Houston area? I make lists while he is at work, we do drive-bys in the evenings when most of them get eliminated, then I start over the next day. You just can't judge a neighborhood from a picture on the internet. There are hundreds of those cookie cutter neighborhoods out there. I did see a few things I really liked - but they weren't for sale. :( Hubby started suggesting ringing on doorbells and making an offer! For now, we are at home again and planning on working on flower beds if the weather co-operates this weekend. (right now it is so windy you can barely stand up!) The boys did an exceptional job of keeping the house clean while we were gone. (or they made a mad dash yesterday before we got here!)
Hope to get back to posting (and reading posts - you don't want to know how many unread posts I have in my reader) more regularly soon!
I hear weeds calling my name.
Have a great weekend!

How long has it been?

Since I actually made a post - it has been awhile!
I went to Houston with hubby last week and had no internet access so I couldn't post from there. When I have been at home I have either been packing or cleaning. I think most of the packing is done for now - until we actually sell the house that is. The storage building is pretty full (we might be able to shove a few more boxes in but that would be all!) and I think we have pretty much taken all we can fit into the apartment.
Since I have been packing and cleaning I haven't done much stitching but I found this finish that I don't think I've posted yet. I'm not sure of the actual finish date, but I took the picture on Jan 16.

I hate that the picture does nothing for the fabric - it is much more golden than it shows up in the picture. (it is Meadowlark from Birds of a Feather - I love that fabric and I don't think I have any more!)
The design is from Stone and Thread. I can't remember what kind of floss was used (it came with the chart) but it was one I hadn't heard of before. Not sure exactly what I am going to do with it - for now it is just hanging on the bulletin board.
Well - better get busy. The realtor will be out to take pictures today.
Have a great Monday!
